Streetline Funded For Smart Cities Tech

Whenever parking in San Francisco we shake our heads at the dumb parking meter. So we are pleased to learn of a startup that is taking on the old paradigm.

San Francisco-based Streetline Networks sells a congestion management system comprised of parking sensors and wireless networked meters. The sensors create a unique parking signature for each vehicle, which can determine, based on variations in parking angles and size of vehicles, when a parking space is filled, when a vehicle departs and when a new vehicle replaces it. Such wireless networked meters enable parking officials to determine who has paid and who hasn't, but also to tally the total revenue for parking by meter, by street and by district based on time of day or day of the week.

Streetline has completed pilot projects and studies for Los Angeles and San Francisco. The LA project has learned that despite two-hour time limits, the average driver stays parked for four hours. In San Francisco, Streetline learned that only 5.4% of parking violations in San Francisco receive tickets.

Streetline has raised $250K+ so far from individual investors including Internet pioneer Gordon Bell and it is planning a Series A round. They indicate on job postings that they have raised venture capital so that round may be closed but the company has not responded to confirm.

Streetline is led by Todd Dykstra who was a board member and CEO of CityCar Share as well as CEO at Dust Networks. Streetline competes to some extent with ParkingCarma and VehicleSense.
