Supergroup Comes Together On Virtualization Startup Desktone

As we have been reporting with the impending VMWare IPO, virtualization is the hotness. Chelmsford, MA-based Desktone has raised $17M in Series A led by Highland Capital Partners and SoftBank Capital, which were joined by Citrix Systems. Desktone has developed what it calls a unified virtual desktop platform which allows for virtualization of desktops, which involves integrating storage, servers, and network systems. The upshot is improved utilization of data center resources.

The company's management have impressive resumes, led by COO Paul Gaffney who was CIO at , SVP at Schwab and is on the board of Power Reviews. CEO is Harry Ruda, who sold Softricity (a virtualization tech company) to Microsoft.
