Time Inc's Sports Illustrated Takes Stake In Takkle

Brooklyn-based Takkle has sold a stake in the company to SI for an undisclosed amount. The start-up has built a social network - primarily photo-based - around high school sports. Takkle joins other college and below sports sites like Scouts.com, Rivals.com and Prep Sports Online.

Takkle aims to connect athletes, coaches, fans, friends, and recruiters for all high school athletics. Athletes can track and compare their stats, post team schedules, scout rivals, and share videos and photos with their teammates and opponents.

Investors include Wasserman Media Group, Greycroft Partners, IJ Smith Enterprises, and Jack Schneider, Managing Director at Allen & Company. The company is led by CTO Frank Speiser who was CTO at Heavy.com and David Birnbaum, CEO and co-founder, who also operates a private equity firm.
