Menlo Backs Video Speed-dating Site Speededate

SpeedEdate has raised around $2.8M in a Series A round led by Menlo Ventures, reports PeWire. Ariel Polar counts himself an angel investors.
The pre-launch company is a straightforward idea to enable 3 minute dating rituals via Webcam. The rules are that you vote yay or nay on each person and somehow users are paired and can exchange blood types and so forth.
Video dating should be great business but there are any number of offerings from True.com to Adult Dating Portal. We suspect that Speededate must have demonstrated some unique marketing concept in order to have won the funding.

The startup is led by Dan Abelon who doesn't have much if any work experience but just graduated from Standford Business School. He did well in Stanford's Entrepreneur Idol contest.
