Video Site MetaCafe Hammers $30M Round
Metacafe leads with the boast that it enjoys more than 25M unique viewers each month. The Israeli-founded company has just raised $30M in Series C financing led by new investors Highland Capital Partners and DAG Ventures. Existing investors Accel Partners and Benchmark Capital were also back in.
Metacafe competitor YouTube has made the rest of the field look small with its big league co-productions (like its partnership with CNN on presidential debates.) In fact it the YouTube brand is becoming synonymous with online video. Metacafe says it plans to take the page from YouTube's game plan by doing similar partnerships (it recently did a deal with the producer of the Bourne Ultimatum and another deal with TV producer Steven Bochco to produce original content.)
