Cisco Closing Deal To Buy Wimax Station Maker

Thumb A deal where Cisco is buying a Wimax base station maker has proceeded to legal before an announcement in the next couple of weeks reports Light Reading. Candidates are: Alvarion (Nasdaq: ALVR), Aperto Networks , Navini Networks, and Redline Communications. If Cisco goes with Alviron it would be an Earth shaker as the Israel-based public company has market cap of $867M+. As recently as 2 years ago, Cisco had been dismissive of the WiFi market and now it might have t pay a price for that assessment. Light Reading also cites speculation that Cisco is interested in a buying femtocell maker and a WiMax Access Services Network Gateway vendor.... Continue...

First Tracks Publishing A Print Mag Publisher Funded

Thumb It has been ages since we have seen an independent print magazine publisher get funding. Lake Tahoe based First Tracks Publishing publishes monthly magazines focused on mountain resorts in the west (places like Tahoe, Bozeman, and Big Sky). PE Hub repots that it has raised $450K in Series A-1 funding. with DCA Capital Partners as a shareholder. Mktng Conversion's Widemile Raises $4M

Thumb Seattle-based Widemile has raised $4M in convertible note financing. It had raised $5.5M in 2005. The startup sells advise to online marketers and search advertisers about how to maximize ad campaign performance and spending efficiency by testing and optimizing their landing pages and other web content for higher conversion rates. Customers include: Microsoft, SmartSheet.com, The Weather Channel Interactive, OneWebHosting, Charter Communications and MIVA. If it sounds interesting, Widmile charges about $15K to test and optimize an individual Web page.Widmile's competitors are led by Optimost and Offermatica (acquired for $65M by Omniture recently.)
