Backup's Mozy Takes EMC's $76M And Runs

mozy.png
Anyone know where American Fork, UT is on the map? According to TechCrunch some tech-savvy inhabitants of the village are cashing some big checks at the bank. EMC is buying online backup's Mozy for $76M. Founded in '05, Mozy has raised just $1.9M in a round led by Wasatch Ventures, with angels Tim Draper and Novell co-founder Drew Major.

Mozy is one of those very low cost new batch of backup companies that includes Box.net, Carbonite and company. Mozy sells storage at $4.95 a month, or $54.45. Mozy gets great reviews. At the a:c, we have been using Jungle Disk which uses Amazon's extremely low cost storage offering.

For CEO, Josh Coates this is a long-overdue payoff for a guy who has been innovating in storage for a decade.
