Belo Invests In Media Marketplace Mochila

mochila.png
We have to say we have been biased about Mochila (just because is name is silly) but the startup is on a roll. last week it signed a deal with Reuters and today it announces that Belo (NYSE: BLC) has taken an unspecified stake. Belo is a TV and newspaper media company that hasn't done a huge number of digital investments.

Mochila's media marketplace allows publishers to license content from other publishers for publication via widgets on their site. We have some experience in working with international content licensing and have been surprised at how pre-digital the business is. Mochila manages complex licensing rules that allow for media to be bought and sold on a secure a la carte basis.

Mochila is led by Ben Chen who was built a couple of large and well funded startups - AppGenesis and IXL.
