Comcast Buys TV SocNet BuddyTV

buddytv.png
We have been tracking Seattle-based BuddyTV since it launched last September. Every time we have checked back in with the site they seem to look sharper. Today PaidContent reports that Comcast has bought BuddyTV for an undisclosed amount (although neither company has confirmed the deal). This should be a good payoff for the company as it has not raised much capital. In July BuddyTV raised around $2.8M in Series A led by Gemstar/TVGuide.

BuddyTV allows visitors who are fans of any number of TV shows to keep up and comment on the programs. Early on, the company smartly tapped individuals to foster discussion on each program. The startup's founders Andy Liu and David Niu had sold their previous company, NetConversions, to aQuantive in 2004.
