Adware's Zango Buys SmartShopper

smartshopper logo.png
Bellevue, WA-based Zango (fka 180 Solutions) has bought Tel Aviv based SmartShopper for a reported $9M. Zango has raised $40M from Spectrum Equity in 2004. The company has been in the cross fires of various privacy groups who protest Zango's policies (Zango's distribution partners seem to be the trouble as they have skirted rules requiring end user consent before adware is downloaded.

Last July, Zango bought Tel Aviv based Hotbar and now it has bought SmartShopper. This downloadable shopping and travel comparison tool was bought by Zango on Oct. 2 and we assume will serve ads via Zango. Smartshopper was at once point owned by Hotbar. Smartshopper claims 10M+ users.
