Hate Your PC Boot-up Lag. Check Splashtop.

A buddy of ours was just complaining about the 8 minutes it takes for his PC to bootup. We talked about what he does during this time and how he cheats it (boot up on the elevator ride). He should take a look at Splashtop which has just launched to address this headache. Splashtop offers a fast-start alternative to Windows, using virtualization. Splashtop says it lets users reach their Internet applications seconds after turning on their PC.

The bummer is that to get Splashtop at this point you need to install the Asus P5E3 Deluxe / WiFi AP motherboard. The hope is that computer makers will being to install it across the board. Given that investors include Acer, we expect to see it elsewhere soon, particularly as the tech press has so warmly received Splashtop.

DeviceVM and its Splashtop site have raised $10M in Series B funding. DFJ Dragon led the deal and was joined by Sumitomo, HTC and WR Hembrecht Ventures. The company had raised a $10.5M Series A round two months ago from Storm Ventures, DFJ Dragon, ASUS, Acer, and Harbinger.

Remember everything we said yesterday about investing in "stable staples" of consumers and small and micro caps that are less volatile? ThumbTopTenREVIEWS Raises $6M

Utah's TopTenREVIEWS has raised $6M in a venture round from Highway 12 Ventures and Village Ventures. TopTenREVIEWS said the funding will use the funding to expand its online review site, and increase its workforce. TopTenREVIEWS runs an online product and price comparison shopping web site, under the guise of objective reviews of products ranging from video games to anti-virus software. The startup says it plans to boost its headcount by 100 thanks to the investment. TopTenREVIEWS was founded by Jerry Ropelato who was COO of ContentWatch. He launched the company as a resource for parents and as it took-off he branched off into other items to review. The company makes a living through advertising. View - site...
