Pink Pop Culture Site Dotspotter Acquired By CBS

dotspotter.png
It would appear that Anthony Soohoo made the right choice by leaving Yahoo back in March 2006. He founded his pop culture startup Dotspotter in June 2006 and today announced that it had been bought by CBS. PaidContent is reporting that CBS would pay Dotspotter $10M. PaidContent and Valleywag gawk at the $10M price tag for a startup that is just getting going in a crowded field. However, we know that Dotspotter raised funding, we just don't know the amount. Still, if the backers put in what might be $2M tops, that's an impressive flip. And wow if Dotspotter is worth $10M what on earth is TMZ or Perez worth?

So how did Soohoo and the Dotspotter team pull off this flip so quickly?

+ They looked at gossip blogs like Perez Hilton and The Superficial and realized the if those amateurs could get that kind of traffic doing gossip, surely some pros could match it.

+ They applied Digg to pop culture, thus aggregating other popular culture sites.

+ They borrowed from Gawker Stalker to encouraged visitors to submit photos of celebs.
