AT&T Buys Pay Per Call's Ingenio

AT&T has paid an undisclosed amount for a San Francisco-based startup called Ingenio. AT&T will begin rolling out Ingenio's pay-per-call services to its yellow pages clients in its online, mobile and print units. The telecom giant owns YellowPages.com Network, AT&T Real Yellow Pages and 1-800-Yellow Page. Ingenio already has a good number of other large clients including AOL and Microsoft.
Founded in 1999, Ingenio is backed by its largest share-holder Benchmark Capital, along with along with the Carlyle Group. Ingenio has raised of $109M. Ingenio launched its pay per call ad network in 2004. More recently it launched another line of business called Ether which enables individuals with their own web sites to connect with their audiences by phone and manage voice-based transactions.
