Mobile Ads' Smaato Raises $3.5M

smaato.png
San Mateo's Smaato has raised $3.5M in Series A funding led by Aeris Capital. Smaato has developed an open architecture platform to serve ads across mobile operating systems, including JAVA, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm OS, and on mobile web pages. It doesn't refer to its platform as an ad server but rather an ad enabler. Among other things, Smaato allows click-to-call response advertising. Smaato's plan is to partner with ad-sales networks an it currently has deals in place with Adconion Media Group and Third Screen Media.

Smaato is led by a couple of Germans: CEO Ragnar Kruse was CEO at CEO at Product Factory GmbH. CMO Harald Neidhardt was CEO of Cardmine, PixelPark and DigitalWorld.
