Overlay.TV Raises $4.5M In A First Round For Video Ad Platform

Founded in July 2007, Ottawa, Canada's Overlay.tv has raised $4.6M Canadian in Series A from Celtic House Venture Partners, EdgeStone Capital Partners and Tech Capital Partners.
Overlay.TV has allows users of YouTube (and other video display platforms) to click on items within the videos to find out where to buy them.
True to its Canadian roots, the company puts it in context by explaining that a fan watching an Ottawa Senators game mouse on Dany Heatley's stick which would link to Easton Hockey's homepage to buy that stick. Overlay will launch a tool on February 14 that will allow businesses to begin linking products in their videos to websites. It will follow that with a Facebook application.

Overlay.tv's funding follows another funding in the sector on Monday when New York -based Tremor Media announced it had raised $11M in Series B.
