Euro Bigs Back Video Dating's WooMe

WooMe the recently launched live introductions platform, today announced that it has received a $3M bridge round led by Mangrove with previous investors Atomico (Skype's Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis), and Klaus Hommels.
We talked with WooMe's CEO, Stephen Stokols, when it launched 3 months back. Since then it has welcomed 250K users. We asked the obvious question: why the Interest in WooMe when Net dating is fairly mature as is Net video. The concept is straight-forward: meet 5 people in 5 minutes online. All voice and video. The investor pitch is that WooMe has pioneered tech that allows in-browser video and audio sessions without downloads. WooMe's CEO hinted that there are applications for their technology beyond speed dating and dating.
BTW - to keep the lights on, WooMe users pay for mutual matches (woos). $1 per woo. If there's not a mutual match, no fee is charged.
WooMe Sets The Bar High In Its Ads, Suggesting That You Will Encounter Frisky San Diego State Co-eds.
It will be interesting to see if a startup like WooMe will do better than Zennström and Friis mainstay Joost.
