$55M Raised By HighWinds' CDN

highwings.png
$55M is a lot of scratch for a first round. But that' what Florida-based HIghwinds has just taken in. Founded in July 2002, Highwinds operates the RollingThunderâ„¢ CDN network which specializes in video delivery of both on demand and live content. That comes with a content management and reporting console to deploy and manage content, file downloads and streaming media.

The challenge with CDNs is that they can have a hard time setting themselves apart. Highwinds' rivals include Limelight Networks; Akamai, Panther, and CDNetworks. So what can an also-ran do but compete on price. Still, the compay claims it has been profitable for some time.

The financing was led by General Catalyst Partners and Alta Communications.
