Teacher Site Raises TeachStreet $2.25M

teachstreet.png
Founded in May 2007, TeachStreet has recently launched a website to help students of all ages find local teachers and classes. It's also meant to empower teachers with online tools to manage their teaching businesses. The site isn’t geared towards online instruction, but of face-to-face meetings between teachers and students. The firm says it launched in Seattle with 25k entries.

TeachStreet has closed a $2.25M Series A led by Madrona Venture Group, with Bezos Expeditions and angel investors including Amazon.com execs Jeff Blackburn, Michael George, Jason Kilar, Kim Rachmeler, and Joel Spiegel; former CEO of Expedia Erik Blachford; founder of ProgrammableWeb John Musser; former RealNetworks' exec Dave Richards; and Dave McCLure.

TeachStreet was founded by Dave Schappell, a former Director of Product Development at Amazon.com and was also VP of Marketing at JibJab.

The idea didn't make much sense as we assumed it was a site for Kenny to find his 4th grade civics teacher. But the teachers it describes are for things like knitting and yoga. We assume it doesn't seem super exciting to you too.
