.edu Startups Knewton and TopSchool Funded

NYC's Knewton has raised $2.5 in Series A. The online education startup was founded by former New Atlantic Ventures partner Jose Ferreira and has won funding from Accel Partners and First Round Capital. The startup's top engineer is Peter Miron who was VP of engineering at Vonage. At this point we don't know what they are up to.

Meanwhile over in Denver, TopSchool has raised $3.2M in Series A funding. Backers are Alsop Louie Partners and Sienna Equity Partners. TopSchool is out of the closet with a traditional product. It has developed a SaaS student information systems that is bought by colleges to keep track of their student body.
