Steve Case & Friends Invest $5M In Facebook App Maker Living Social

Washington DC doesn't have a lively tech startup scene but Steve Case looms over it. A local startup called LivingSocial.com has closed $5M+ in Series A . The round was led by Grotech Ventures which was joined by Steve and Jean Case.

Launched in February 2008, LivingSocial claims 6.4M beta users who have input 80M reviews of movies, books, music, games, restaurants and beers. The company has made headway by running in the apposite direction of AOL with its central portal strategy. LivingSocial has themed vertical websites like ReelSocial, ReadingSocial, TuneSocial, GamingSocial, DiningSocial and BrewSocial. These have apps on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Orkut and hi5.

The startup's CEO and co-founder Tim O'Shaughnessy was Consumer Products Lead at Revolution Health Group and before that was Product Manager at America Online. He was at both for 1 year 8 months His co-founder and CTO Aaron Batalion was at Revolution Health for 1 year 8 months. They founded LivingSocial 8 months back so we give this 8 months more.
