Shelfari Bought By Amazon

shelfar9i.png
We had he sense the first time we posted on Shelfari that its business model was to get bought by Amazon, using perhaps Barnes and Noble as a rival suitor.

Today we learn that Amazon.com is indeed buying Shelfari, the Seattle social networking startup for book readers. Amazon.com owned a stake in Shelfari, via a $1M seed round from Amazon.com and angel investors in February 2007. Just lat month Amazon.com bought AbeBooks, which in turns owns Shelfari rival LibraryThing.

Shelfari is a social network for book worms who want to tell others what they are reading. It also has author Web pages so writers can interact with readers.

A recent interview with Shelfari CEO Josh Hug

Shelfari is led by Josh Hug who was with Shelfari since 1999.
