Geneology SocNet MyHeritage has raised $15M from Index Ventures and Accel Partners.

Israel-based MyHeritage.com says it has 25M members. The positioning is a social network where you can find relatives, research family history and share family photos. They have opened up global traffic by serving the site in 25 languages. Competitors are Geni.com and Ancestry.com.

MyHeritage says it plans to make a living from e-commerce - birthdays and anniversaries make for good present buying behavior. There is a advertising component as well as well.

MyHeritage announced a new photo-tagging service that uses face-recognition tech to group similar faces. Photos can be imported photos from Flickr, Picasa and Facebook, and then be exported back to those sites.
