CollegeWikis Raises $2M

collegewikis.png
NYC-based CollegeWikis has raised $2M in Series A funding led by HighBAR Ventures with Richmond Management, eCoast Angel Network and Boston Harbor Angels. There is very little traffic going on here so we are not sure why anyone is writing checks. The startup says it is Wikipedia meets Facebook. Sounds great but only if the kids care.

The startup is led by Joe DiPasquale who recently graduated from the Stanford Business School.

that is strange - the site is dead, busiest post has a few comments, schools are empty...feels a bit like a drupal or elgg open source installation with a custom theme and it is VERY slow -dudes,ever heard of memcache? hello? who built this site...?

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just raise $1m? Another college market startup CampusLIVE.com hasn't raised a cent (correct me if i'm wrong) and has much better traffic.

i agree with the author - not sure why anyone is writing them checks.

Looked up CampusLIVE. They have not yet raised a cent. Great platform...they SHOULD raise money.

i do like campuslive, seems intuitive. but the difference between it and collegewikis is that collegewikis has all original content posted by a first hand source, students. campuslive is an organized collection of other websites' information.

If these "investors" want to throw their money away, I will take it.

This site will not probably not be around in 6 months it looks like they survive in spite of themselves. Terrible business revenue model....because they don't have one.
