Game Reviews' Crispy Gamer Raises $8.25M First

NYC-based Crispy Gamer has raised $8.25M in first-round funding from Constellation Ventures and company founders. The startup has launched a site with independent game reviews. Independence is the key description here as they claim they will not accept ads from game publishers. That means they are leaving a lot of money on the table. We hope they have done the math here, but CrispyGamer will have to get much, much larger to be able to pay the bills running Circuit City and Equifax ads from ad networks.
Crispy Gamer is led by Chris Heldman, former head of media entertainment at Google and before that he was VP of sales for Gamespay, John Keefer who was editorial director at GameSpy, and Chris Hoerenz, former CMO at eMusic.
Crispy Gamer is taking on CBS Interactive which has become the giant in online game review since it bought CNET.
