Boxee.tv Raises $4M For Modern TV Viewing

boxee.png
Founded in Israel and now in NYC, Boxee.tv has raised $4M in Series A funding from Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures. We find that service to be very pleasing to today's young geek, but nowhere near the mainstream.

Boxee.tv is a free, open-source software platform that lets users control their media from a PC-connected TV. Users can watch movies or web video, listen to music, check photos, and so on. The platform also sports social features so you can make recommendations and share your media with friends.

The startup has done very well finding early adopters but again it needs to cross the chasm to mainstream users - to use an old school term.
