Cisco Pays $590M For Flip Phone Maker Pure Digital

Cisco has paid $590M for low-price camcorder maker Flip Video, which has sold more than 2M units to date. We have to say that we bought one of the product for the wife and it has been one of the few good consumer electronics purchases we have made in the past couple of years.

There are those who will question why business does Cisco have in competing against the likes of Sony in consumer electronics. We find it less of a stretch as Cisco has done well with Linkys, the best of all consumer home Wifi routers.

In 2007, San Francisco-based Pure today closed $40M in Series F funding co-led by AllianceBernstein and Morgan Stanley Principal Investments with Heights Capital Management, Benchmark Capital, Focus Ventures, Crescendo Ventures, Samsung, Sequoia Capital, Steamboat Ventures and VantagePoint Venture Partners. Pure Digital has raised over $95M since 2000 inception.
