Google Invests in Paparazzi Ads' Pixazza

pixacca.png
Google has invested in Pixazza (formerly Bemuz), which is led by CEO Bob Lisbonne who is a venture partner at Matrix Partners. The startup comes with a Netscape pedigree as Lisbonne was at Netscape GM and his founding engineer Chris Waterson was Chief Engineer at Netscape and CTO James Everingham was there as well.

Pixazza has raised $5.75M in Series A funding from Google along with venture firms August Capital, CMEA Capital, and a number of individual investors including angel investor Ron Conway, former eBay COO Maynard Webb, and Facebook CFO Gideon Yu.

They idea here is very clever. They are inspiring fashionistas to tag photos for celebs wearing the latest fashions as they appear on blogs. So you are on TheSuperficial and you see Jennifer Aniston in a bikini. Someone has tagged the make of the bikini, so when you mouse-over you get the vitals and if you click you are taken to a bikini merchant where you can buy the item.

Of course they will move on from gossip photos if its a success but its a good place to start.
