HP Buy File System's Ibrix

Hewlett-Packard is buying Billerica, MA-based Ibrix. No financial terms were disclosed. Founded in 2000, Ibrix has 53 employees and more than 175 corporate customers including HP. The startup competes in cloud computing, specifically file storage for massive amounts of data. The HP-IBRIX architecture was a key technology element in the pioneering stereoscopic 3D animated film format used in Monsters vs. Aliens. They also have partnerships with Dell and EMC. It's built on commodity hardware, and the license is independent of the hardware it's installed on.
Ibrix has raised around $45M since 2003 from JT Venture Partners, Credit Suisse and others.
