NetBook OS Maker Jolicloud Raises 1st Round As Google Readies Its Own

Paris-based Jolicloud has raised $4.2M in Series A led by Atomico Ventures with Mangrove Capital Partners. The startup was founded by Tariq Krim, who had founded Netvibes.

Our first reaction on learning of Jolicloud was good luck. However, having spent some time looking at it, we can conclude that a nice visual design with an OS goes a long way. Netvibes did something that was old hat - provide a new start page - but won users because the design was fresh.
