StrongMail Buys Social Media Marketing's PopularMedia

Redwood City-based StrongMail has acquired San Francisco-based PopularMedia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. PopularMedia was venture backed with $18M by Sequoia Capital, Steamboat Ventures, and DAG Ventures.

PopularMedia sells a product to advertisers and publishers that it claims multiply the impact of their online ad campaigns and significantly increase user engagement by wrapping standard online display ad units with social media. The deal gives StrongMail's 450 customers a way to publish then track content on social media sites. Marketers will have an option to send messages directly into the email boxes of Facebook fans, as well as track message forwards.
