EnergyHub and Con Edison Combine To Make Smart Grid A Reality

With many companies looking to play a role in implementing smart grid technology, Brooklyn, New York’s EnergyHub and Con Edison announced a deal today that would employ EnergyHub’s software and consumer energy solutions in New York City.
Starting with 100 homes in Long Island City, Queens, EnergyHub will deploy its touchscreen dashboard, sockets, and strips in the households proving consumers with the opportunity to provide better control over their electricity useage. EnergyHub is also providing a portal to Con Edison to monitor energy useage within the homes.
With some of technology’s biggest and best of breed companies like Cisco (CSCO:NASDAQ) and Google (GOOG:NASDAQ) working on smart grid solutions, the choice of using EnergyHub may come as surprise to some people in the industry.
“We approached Con Edison several months ago. They had been looking in the industry and hadn’t seen anything that they liked,” said CEO Seth Frader-Thompson. “Con Edison thought we had a really strong end-user value.”
And in an industry where companies like working with proven solutions, a successful implementation with Con Edison could be the beginning of many more partnerships in the near future. “We are a one-stop for devices and software,” added Mr. Frader-Thompson. “We have a great consumer product that covers everything the utility needs to do that is consumer-facing while also providing the software that utilities must have.”
In the near future EnergyHub will be launching its consumer line that will have an entry-level price tag of several hundred dollars.
EnergyHub has received angel funding and a Series A round from .406 Venures and Physic Ventures.
