Rubicon Project Buys Others Online

othersonline.png
Seattle-based behavioral targeting data provider Others Online has been acquired by the Rubicon Project in Santa Monica for an undisclosed price. Rubicon announced the news this morning, although the acquisition apparently began in June.

Rubicon launched in 2007 and has raised $34M, most recently a $5M Series C round. Rubicon has been known for its brash marketing programs, including corporate videos that have garnered a good deal of attention. Given that Others Online is a small 4 person startup, it would seem that in this case Rubicon did the deal to acquire employees and a bit of technology. In its most recent round if financing, Rubicon indicated that it would do M&A.

Others Online's business is to capture data for publishers about their audience. It would seem that Rubicon now has a couple of products to offers its publisher clients, which would differentiate it from the competition.
