SolarCity Buys SoCal Rival SolSource Energy For Electric Vehicle Charging

Arcadia, CA-based SolSource Energy, a installer of solar power systems, has been acquired by Bay Area solar installer SolarCity. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jim Cahill, who was co-owner of SolSource Energy, joins SolarCity as Regional Operating Director in Southern California. SolarCity is expanding its electric vehicle charging installation operations and Cahill previously was at Edison EV, which installed electric vehicle infrastructure for Southern California Edison, and oversaw installation of more than 2,000 charging stations for electric vehicles there. SolarCity said that it is now the primary installer of electric vehicle charging stations for electric car firm Tesla Motors. As part of the acquisition, SolarCity also said it has assumed responsibility for distribution of electric vehicle chargers for Toyota Tsusho.
