Tweet Ad Network Ad.ly Funded

LA-based Ad.ly, which has developed in-stream advertising on Twitter, has raised $500K. The round came from GRP Partners.
Ad.ly monetizes Twitter feeds from people who have 7 figure followers, as well as those we have fewer.
The business and ad unit is similar to what the likes of Feedburner and Pheedo did for RSS feeds - simply placing text ads in feeds. CEO and Founder Sean Rad previously was President at Orgoo, a failed video chat firm. He says he envisions his company becoming like Federated Media for Twitter.
A problem that we see here is that it was too easy for Ad.ly to get up and going (in less than 6 months). Clearly any and every ad network can get into Twitter advertising. Most publishers will prefer to consolidate their advertising with their Web site and Twitter feed, rather than have separate representation for both. Twitter ad networks include Magpie and Twittad but we expect other networks to quickly pile on.
