Enterprise Social Network's CubeTree Raises $8M

cubetree.png
CubeTree has raised $8M in Series B led by InterWest Partners led the round with return backer Trinity Ventures. The Redwood City, CA-based startup has developed a freemium enterprise collaboration suite built on a social networking.

CubeTree offers a hosted service which competes with the likes of Yammer in that it allows a closed enterprise Twitter like experience as well as a closed Facebook type of experience. Another feature is that it allows documents like Spreadsheets to be created as objects so that people can comment on them. Other competitors might be SocialText and Jive - CubeTree provides a matrix to show how the think they have more.

SAP is an early CubeTree user. CEO and co-founder Carlin Wiegner Carlin was VP/GM at Symantec.

We think that CubeTree will do very well. It is not terribly different from some other enterprise 2.0 offerings out there but for growth we do like their Freemium plan which we think will Trojan Horse them into a lot of companies. Pricing seems fair at just $3 per user per month up to 1000 users.
