Flight Delay Futurist FlightCaster Raises $1.3M

San Francisco-based FlightCaster has raised $1.3M in a Series A investment. The round came from Tandem Entrepreneurs and Sherpalo Ventures.
FlightCaster aims to take-advantage of the last minute notice that airlines provide to their customers when their are delays. Frequent travelers know that by the time they get notice its too late to make good decisions. They say they use machine learning to make predictions. The math actually seems fairly straightforward. If a cluster of plains leaving Denver in the morning is late you software can surely determine what outcome that might have.
We like the idea but are interested in the business model. FlightCaster's mobile app costs $7.99 on iPhone and BlackBerry, with Android support next.
FlightCaster is providing an API to work with partners and they think it will mostly be needed by corporate travel systems.

Flightcaster is co-founded by Jason Freedman who was a co-founder at OpenVote and Evan Konwiser who was a consultant at Bain but did a short stint at Kayak.
