webvanta.png
Webvanta, which has developed a SaaS based content management systems (CMS) has closed its Series A funding led by individuals from the North Bay Angels. No financial terms were disclosed.

Webvanta provides a hosted content management and database system that enables web designers to build database-driven sites without server programming. The general idea is that while WordPress, Ning and others have made it easy to set up a templated blog or social network, there are not many good hosted options for setting up a rich Web site for a small to mid-size business. Pricing ranges from free to $99 per month.

The startup is run by Michael Slater who also operates BuildingWebApps.com, a portal for web developers, and produces the LearningRails.com online course. He was at Adobe for five years leading a research team in digital imaging focused on photo management. He joined Adobe when it purchased Fotiva, which he had co-founded.
