Local Referral Biz ALikeList Raises $5M

ALikeList has raised $5M in Series A funding from Syncom Venture Partners. ALikeList is a local business recommendation engine. When it grows up it wants to be like Yelp, although a bit broader to cover all businesses. We don't see a huge difference in the functionality. It would seem that ALikeList wants users to favorite businesses, which might mean more than Yelp where users are encouraged to comment on every an all businesses.
Overall, we like the referral business but it is super crowded and we feel like ALikeList needs to do more to stand-apart. They have hired a new VP of product so they see this too.
ALikeList was co-founded by Rob Gemmell who was a creative partner at CKS and other Web development shops. His co-founders are Michael McConachie and Jim Delli Santi who worked at SBC SmartPages and Yahoo respectively.
