Voice Tech's DynaVox Files IPO

Pittsburgh, PA-based DynaVox is planning to sell up to $125M of common stock in an IPO. Founded in 1983, when the company was spun-off from Carnegie Mellon University DynaVox sells products to people who have trouble communicating from disorders such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, cerebral palsy, autism or those who have suffered strokes or other traumatic brain injury. From 2007 to 2009, revenues went from $66.2M to $91.2. DynaVox is profitable.

Key shareholders include Vestar Capital Partners and Park Avenue Equity Partners. In 2004, DynaVox acquired a competitor, San Diego-based Mayer Johnson Inc. It has made several other acquisitions, including Enkidu Research and Blink Twice. Just today it also announced the acquisition of Eye Response Technologies Inc. of Charlottesville, VA.
