Salesforce.com Pays $142M+ For Biz Contact's Jigsaw

Salesforce.com says it will pay $142M plus $14M in earn-outs for San Mateo, CA-based Jigsaw. Its a nice out for Jigsaw which has raised just over $20M from Austin Ventures, El Dorado Ventures and Norwest Venture Partners.

Founded in 2004, Jigsaw gives individuals and companies access to contact information for 21M business people and profiles of 3.9M companies. The use case is access to business information for sales, marketing, recruiting and customer service. Jigsaw also sells data as a service (DaaS) through a variety of cloud‐based data acquisition and management services.

Jigsaw is interesting in that it came upon the contacts through crowd-sourcing - users are incentivized to enter and update contact information.

Jigsaw is led by CEO Jim Fowler who previously was CP of sales for a few companies including Digital IMpact.

For Salesforce, the addition on Jigsaw is a straight-forward way for them to help their customers more easily build contact lists in their Salesforce databases. Given the large number of Salesforce users who might become Jigsaw users, the Jigsaw database size could become very impressive, making Salesforce even more valuable.
