Israeli 3D Chip Maker Prime Sense Raises $20M+
Israeli games start-up Prime Sense Inc. has raised $20.4M in a 2nd round. Canaan Partners led the round with existing investors Gemini Israel Fund and Genesis Partners. Prime Sense develops sensors for 3D games imaging. The sensor sees a user and learns and understands user movement within his or her surroundings. The device can see, track and react to user movements without change of environment or wearable equipment for the end user. In other words, you can do cool things with your computer without having to wear dorky wires on your body. Bezos Puts $3M Into Online Gaming's Kongregate
Amazon's Jeff Bezos' VC arm has made a few investments recently including TeachStreet, ChaCha and Pelago. Now he has put $3M into Kongregate. We have covered Kongregate in the past and think they have tremendous promise as they have won a strong following of developers. And users are locked in. According to comScore’s February report, Kongregate users stay on the site an average of 59.3 minutes per day and play more than 4 games at a time. Other data points that they release: the site gets over 3M monthly unique visitors. With a monthly growth rate over 25%. Kongregate says it expects to reach more than 10M unique visitors by the end of 2008. The most popular game on the site, Desktop Tower Defense, has been played more than 2.6M times. Realtime Worlds Pulls $50M Investment
Realtime Worlds, which is based in Dundee, Scotland and Boulder, CO has raised $50M in Series B led by Maverick Capital. NEA had raised $31M from NEA. This is of course a great deal of capital for a games company. But Realtime Worlds is no run-of-the-mill studio. Realtime has done an exclusive partnership with Microsoft Game Studios and launched its first title, Crackdown, on Xbox 360 in early 2007. It sold about 1.4M copies. The firm was founded by in 2002 by Grand Theft Auto creator Dave Jones and now has 200 employees. Realtime Worlds' current major product is All Points Bulletin, an urban action, massively multiplayer online game. View - site... Continue...
