Online Survey's Decipher Funded
What do you do if you believe the quality of your work will suffer if you outsource to India but you are priced too high if you set your HQ in the Bay Area? Move to California's central valley. That's what the founders of online survey startup Decipher did in when it founded the company in 2000. It seems to have paid off as the company has been able to increase its headcount to about 50 people and expects to bill $10M in revenues this year to over 100 clients. Fresno's Decipher has raised an undisclosed amount of VC funding from DCA Capital Partners. Decipher says they met the folks at DCA Capital Partners at the 2006 Central Valley Venture Forum in Fresno where the company won the “Best in Show” competition. View - site... Continue...

BPL Raises $26M For Internet Via Third Wire - Electricity
Pittsburgh's BPL Global [BPL = broadband over power lines] has raised $26M in Series C from Morgan Stanley, PA Early Stage, Al-Deera Holdings, International Financial Advisors, International Finance Co. and Kuwait Holding Company. The company had previously raised $25M last September. BPL has competition from Germantown, MD's Current Communications Group. Investors in Current include Google, the media conglomerate Hearst, Earthlink, GE and bankers at Goldman Sachs. More than $200M may have been invested in Current. BPL is led by Keith Schaefer, who is on his 3rd or 4th technology life. He co-authored the widely read book NetResults. Cubes Puts Up For Goowy
[Mark Cuban has invested $1.125M in Goowy Media, a San Diego firm whose Web site makes a "desktop on the Web" that features e-mail, IM and file storage.] We recall that when Mark Cuban was a scrappy entrepreneur at Broadcasting.com, we at Red Herring were blitzed by PR notifications from him. He issued a press release each week, it seemed. The same can be said of Goowy Media, which has been very aggressive in courting the blogosphere.
