B2B Video's Veodia Raises $8.3M in First Round
We continue to think that the B2B video market is the place to be right now given the death march that has taken place in B2C. YouTube just isn't right for B2B and there is no clear leader there. Looking to take some leadership here is San Mateo's Veodia which has raised $8.3M in Series A from Clearstone Venture Partners, DE Shaw and angels. Veodia lets users easily create and broadcast video recordings. They remove the hassles of capturing, encoding, uploading, and streaming across the spectrum of video players. The product is free Free up to 500 MB and 5 concurrent users. After that they charge, although they are currently not charging. Top competitors at this point would be Blip.tv to UStream.tv. At this stage of the game, reference clients count for a lot. Veodia has been able to tap MIT Tech Review which says that is has saved $500K per year thanks to Veodia. It's interesting to note the Veodia has a French founder and management team. Another top prospect in online video. Fellow Frenchman Loic Le Meur is doing it with Seesmic. View - site... Continue...

For The Love of GodTube: Investors Bless Startup With $30M
GodTube, a Christian online video sharing and social networking site, has raised $30M in funding from hedge fund GLG Partners, reports PaidContent. The deal gives GodTube a $150M valuation, and follows $2.5M in seed funding from angels led by Norm Miller of Interstate Batteries. GodTube was launched in the Spring of 2007 in Los Angeles by Christopher Wyatt (online student at Dallas Theological Seminary), Dr. Mike Miller (former Executive Pastor of First Baptist Dallas), Lloyd Chartrand (former CEO of Mentura), Michael Riddell (former EVP of New Product Development at Spark Networks), and Jason Martell (creator of Xfacts). Godtube's growth has been, well, miraculous, so we understand investor interest. A problem that we see is that the site's revenues are based on advertising. A look at their ads confirm that they have to be very restrictive about what they will show. We suspect that their eCPMs have got to be low, low, low. An interview with Godtube's founder. It was blocked on Godtube and could only be found on Youtube. View - site... Continue...

Video Conferencing's Digital Union Raises $1.7M First Round
North Hollywood-based Digital Union says it has raised $1.7M from angels in its first round. Specifically the company cites that its backers are Midwestern business execs. The company is a bit odd, but maybe that's just because the web site is terrible. Digital Union says it has created video collaboration software and its selling it into healthcare, entertainment and education. The firm is led by Paul Naday who was Senior Director of Business Development at Karl Storz Endoscopy-America. View - site... Continue...
